Hotel with PRM access, what does the law say?
If you are a person with reduced mobility and wish to book in a hotel that does not have disabled access or PRM rooms, the hotel may be in breach.
Indeed, Article 17 of the Order of 20 April 2017 + Annex 2 states that the minimum number of adapted rooms is defined as follows:
- 1 room if the establishment has no more than 20 rooms;
- 2 rooms if the establishment has no more than 50 rooms;
- 1 additional room for each additional 50 rooms or fraction thereof beyond 50 ;
- The adapted rooms are distributed between the different levels served by a lift.
Similarly, with regard to the interior of the rooms, the order states:
- A manoeuvring space with the possibility of a U-turn, the characteristics of which are defined in Annex 2;
- A passage of at least 0.90 m on both long sides of the bed and a passage of at least 1.20 m on the short free side of the bed, or a passage of at least 1.20 m on both long sides of the bed and a passage of at least 0.90 m on the short free side of the bed
Other requirements are indicated, such as an adapted shower, grab bars or sitting equipment.
